Supporting People WITH SENSORY LOSS
What is Supporting People?
The Supporting People programme offers vulnerable people the opportunity to improve their quality of life by providing a stable environment which enables greater independence.
It will deliver high quality and strategically planned housing-related services which are cost effective, reliable and complement any existing services.
The Supporting People service is essentially to promote independence by supporting the individual to cary out various tasks. For example shopping, cooking, housing needs, finances and social interaction etc.
Who does Supporting People support?
We are able to support anyone who is:
- Profoundly deaf
- Deaf/blind
- Hard of hearing
- Visually impaired
- Parents of deaf or blind children
What can Supporting People offer?
Q Care's Supporting People team are fully trained to understand and cater for the needs of individuals with sensory impairment or loss and can offer support with the following:
General Support
- Liaison with statutory and voluntary services
- Signposting to specific legal services
- Signposting to local community organisations
- Accompanying for shopping or housing related errands
- Advice, advocacy and liaison
- Help gaining access to other services
Housing Needs
- Help finding other accommodation
- Help setting up and maintaining home or tenancy
Abuse
- Help establishing personal safety and security
Health
- Supervision and monitoring of health and well-being
- Liaising with health professionals and support with appointments
Mental Health
- Emotional support, listening and advice
- Supervision and monitoring of health and well-being
Financial
- Help managing finances and benefit claims
- Signposting to local community organisations e.g. Citizens Advice Bureau, Employment Training
Social
- Facilitating social interaction and overcoming social isolation
- Developing social skills/behaviour
- Peer support
Family and Home
- Advice and support on home improvement work
- Help maintaining the safety and security of the dwelling
- Developing domestic/life skills
- Home risk assessment
