What is the Learning Curve?

Learning Curve's concept was developed to introduce people with a learning disability in the Rhondda Cynon Taff area, to a real work situation. Whilst running and maintaining a successful coffee shop, trainees learn new skills and build self-esteem that helps and encourages them throughout all walks of life.

Learning Curve, a short history.

The idea was initiated by Rhondda Cynon Taff County Borough Council and implemented by Q Care Ltd. On 14th February 2005, after a lot of hard work, time and effort, the two organisations were proud to cut the ribbon of the newly opened Learning Curve™ Coffee & Craft Shop!

So far, the coffee shop has successfully seen 41 trainees pass through its doors. For the majority of these, it has been the stepping stone that has lead them to move on by accepting full time employment with other businesses in the area. Needless to say, with such an achievement under our belts - we are very proud of what we do and who we work with!

Training.

The Learning Curve offers part time training positions for people with a learning disability for 6-12 months, pending a 1 month probationary period.

We offer training in the following areas:

• Food preparation
• Proficient equipment use e.g. oven, microwave, toaster, coffee machine
• Preparing hot and cold drinks
• Serving food to tables and clearing tables
• Food hygiene and health & safety
• Cleaning the kitchen and restaurant areas
• Stock rotation and stock take
• Personal hygiene
• Using a cash register
• Cashing-up and banking
