Trainee Support Worker – Caerphilly

Caerphilly & Newport, Wales

The service users you will visit will have a range of dependencies, some will require minimal support others will require you to offer full assistance because they are unable to complete tasks for themselves. Care tasks you will complete include personal care which is supporting people to wash, dress and take care of personal grooming such as combing hair, shaving and looking smart and presentable. You will support people to take their medication as prescribed by their GP to ensure they remain as well as they can be. You will also be required to support people to prepare meals and assist with feeding if required. There may also be a need for you to support with general household tasks such as general cleaning and washing dishes to make sure that the persons living space is presentable and safe. The role is varied and rewarding, your day will be spent visiting different people at different times to support them in their daily routines in order to do this you will be required to commute via public transport, car or on foot. If you drive we can provide you with use of a company car for work purposes

You will be caring and empathetic with a real enthusiasm to help and support others, you may have experience of this from caring for family members such as grandparents or even your own children. We will require you to be punctual as time and routine is important to those we care for. You will have the ability to read for information and follow the information to deliver the service. You will be a good communicator and have the ability to adapt your  communication skills. You will be able to write clearly. A care related qualification would be an advantage but full training is provided. A full Driving licence is preferred

28 Hours per Week

Shift patterns are

7.00am – 15.00pm or 15.00pm – 23.00pm with a 30 minute break.

You will work 4 shifts per week.

All staff are required to work every other weekend.

You will receive support via our employment support coach, the employment support coach will support you to complete a 6 month training induction which will prepare you to enrol onto the level 2 qualification in health and social care. You will be allocated a mentor in your local branch and also be supported by a team supervisor who will be able to nurture you in the community whilst on the job. The employment support coach will be available to support you with accessing appropriate childcare provision, applying for benefits and learning to drive in addition to supervising and supporting you during your 6 month placement. You will also be offered support with CV writing to support you in your future career endeavours. Completion of the 6 month training induction will enable you to register with Social Care Wales which is the professional body for social care in wales should you wish to pursue a career within the social care sector

I haven’t worked in care before. Can I still apply to be a Support Worker?

Most definitely. Although it would be an advantage to have some experience of care work, it isn’t mandatory. We provide full training. What we look for is the right personality and the right attitude.

Do I need to drive to work as a Support Worker?

The short answer is no, although it can depend on the vacancy. Some positions allow the Support Worker to walk or use public transport to get to calls. Alternatively, Support Workers can work together so you might ride as a passenger in one of our Company vehicles. However, these vacancies are not available year round, so please check the specific job requirements, as we will always make it clear whether or not you need a driving licence.

How do I get to drive one of your Company pool cars?

Each car is scheduled on certain runs during the day. If your work pattern matches one of our company car runs, you'll be able to use it.

What hours will I work as a Support Worker?

Support Workers’ hours vary, and we will try to be as flexible as possible in order to suit your preference. At your interview we will ask you for your availability, meaning the hours you choose to work within our defined patterns.
